Arriving in Cyprus

After spending almost 24 hours either in an airport or on an airplane I finally arrived in Laranca, Cyprus. Alongside my 12 other UTK travel partners, we boarded a bus for the capital city of Cyprus, Nicosia.

During the 45 minute bus ride to the capital city of Cyprus I answered  the question, “how much different are they than “US.” A question that I had been pondering since I first decided to go on this adventure to the Mediterranean Isle. During the ride the bus driver played a smorgasbord of music.  From 80’s techno to Marvin Gay to the Backstreet Boy’s ‘Millennium’ album, we listened to it all. As we traveled along a wide 4-lane highway I noticed that there wasn’t much difference from the highways in the states. Graffiti was painted on most overpasses, advertising billboards shown from miles away (both local and international companies) and teenagers in cars whizzed by carelessly.

Upon arrival and check-in to our apartment’s I realize that, for the most part, Cyprus is not much different than the U.S.

I have only been in country for several hours and overall Cyprus and the U.S. are similar in many ways. Over the next 5 weeks I am sure I will find some differences. Hopefully I will appreciate those and embrace them, because Hey, how boring would the world be if we were all alike.
